My book ‘Selected paintings and Drawings 2013-16’ has arrived from the states!

Thank you so much to Chelsea van der Meer and her book binding business Yonder Bound – this book was handmade to the finest quality, and was created lovingly with spirit and soul. It really is a luxurious arty keepsake.

The book, as I just mentioned is handmade by Chelsea and consists of my favourite works of the last few years. There are twenty colour plates of the paintings and in the back there is a short story called ‘The Horse’ slipped into a wee pocket.

All the books will be hand numbered and signed, £20 each and are individuals of a limited edition of twenty copies.

Last night was fun. Cheers to everyone that came and made it a great event – a packed Vic on a Tuesday night in front of some pretty mad bands – Swindon you did yourself proud.

A big old nod of the head must be nodded in the direction of Diagonals for putting us on the bill – this being their album launch extravaganza. Great album by the way…and great guys and gal.

Here’s a bit of footage of Sea Mammal from last night. Will be our last local show until February.

I found out recently that scientists in Silicon valley are going to be spending billions of dollars in the hope that they can prove their theory that we live in a computer simulated world:

“Musk is just one of the people in Silicon Valley to take a keen interest in the “simulation hypothesis”, which argues that what we experience as reality is actually a giant computer simulation created by a more sophisticated intelligence. If it sounds a lot like The Matrix, that’s because it is.”

If i’m honest, although I tend to overthink far too often about the meaning of life and offer up these bleatings concerning existentialism and absurdism to all and sunder, i’m concerned about this…mainly because it may be true… and what happens if it is true? The whole world will go mad that’s what. As if it isn’t mad enough already.

Bit dodgy I reckon. But fun I suppose.

On the flip side, think how many Blackjacks you could buy with a billion pounds – you could build an army of ’em and use them to take over the ‘World’. Whatever that means.

We spent last night jamming new ideas, with the possibility of toning down the extremes of our sound – coercing a more laid back and refined aura, in the hope that next year we can earn money playing at children’s birthday parties, weddings and village fetes. This is where we are at right now.

Yesterday I was driving through Pinehurst in me truck when ‘Hanging on the telephone’ came on the radio. I’d forgotten how much I like Blondie, so I cranked it up, opened all the windows, stuck my elbow out and let the locals have it. I felt a mixture of pride and embarrassment, which felt good and naughty. Then today Gord’ posted summat about DEVO which made me think of Jean-Michel Basquiat, another forgotten love. So I did this.

Had a spare quarter of an hour before the Utd/Stoke match, so did a quick automatic drawing. Actually, all of my drawings are automatic to an extent. On the contrary I guess, all creative actions start with an initial notion, be it a fragment of an idea or a fully fledged plan; it could be the discovery of a new chord, which turns into a jam, which turns into a song, or it could be a desire to draw a rainbow, because you saw a rainbow, which led to creating an environment for the rainbow. Or you could try and say something meaningful in a meaningless world, which in turn creates a certain absurdism. Either way, everything is absurd really. Absurd is interesting. And in paintworld everything is absurd.
